PROCEDURE
In this phase, patients experience potentially painful or anxiety-inducing procedures, often in unfamiliar surroundings (especially if experiencing the procedure for the first time). Visual and auditory distractions often help in reducing stress/anxiety and reducing the use of sedatives during procedures.
In the overall patient experience, the configuration of the physical environment also influences informational and spatial privacy. For example, crowded waiting rooms, exam rooms with thin walls or flimsy curtains and publicly visible therapy spaces do not offer a safe space and compromise privacy.
