Following an Evidence-Based Design Process
Evidence-based design is a cyclical process that identifies available evidence, analyzes the evidence, develops design innovations, conducts research, and disseminates information for the next team to build upon. While there is a growing body of research on the impact of the design of ambulatory care environments on outcomes, few studies specifically address issues of safety-net clinic design. This section pulls together design recommendations for safety-net clinics based on findings from literature review as well as best practice case studies. These recommendations are not meant as prescriptive guidelines; rather, it is recommended they be used as guiding considerations during the design process.
